This is a very nasty crime-revenge film directed by cult movie helmsman WILLIAM LUSTIG. Far more realistic and superior than any of the DEATH WISH movies, it does involve a group of citizens ready to take the streets back from the gangs and the druggie scum. ROBERT FORSTER displays dignity and depth of character as a working class Joe pushed to his absolute limit, and FRED WILLIAMSON gives possibly his most impressive performance ever, as his good buddy that shows the light to closure in all of this. The film is supported by an above average cast of character actors including RICHARD BRIGHT and JOE SPINELL (both of THE GODFATHER as well as countless other roles), the always clever and beautiful CAROL LYNLEY, and the late-great WOODY STRODE, one of my personal all-time dudes of Z-Grade cinema. This is a 42nd St. epic trash classic.
