This apocalyptic sci-fi gem was a courageous if unsuccessful attempt to renew the 3-D craze of the 1950s. JEFFREY BYRON heads the cast as space ranger Dogen, who is bound and determined to stem the activities of intergalactic psychotic megalomaniac Jared-Syn (MIKE PRESTON). This bad guy controls a horde of one-eyed mutant henchmen, with a hideout deep in the mountains. The outlandish plot also involves the use and worship of crystals, and an imperiled, sexy young miner named Dhyana (KELLY PRESTON) whose father was murdered by Syns' young "son" Baal (R. DAVID SMITH) The plotline is more MAD MAX western than sci-fi in nature. The former 3-D special effects aren't going to give Industrial Light and Magic any sleepless nights, but ya gotta love the variety of asteroids, spaceships and stuff that are thrust at the audience. The supporting cast of this Z-Grade gem boasts some interesting names, including TIM THOMERSON, RICHARD MOLL and LARRY PENNELL. The film was produced by ALBERT BAND (his ARISTA FILMS banner) and directed by his son CHARLES BAND. Filmed partially at the infamous Bronson Caves at Griffith Park in Los Angeles.
